Aldrich, Lynn: Three Founts

Lynn Aldrich: Three Founts, 2010

In the plaza at One Colorado in Old Pasadena, California, USA, Lynn Aldrich has installed her first working fountain-sculpture, titled Three Founts. It's made from garden hose and is inspired by the history of the site. In 1888, the Pasadena chapter of the Salvation Army held its first meeting here. One of the hymns their brass bands play is ‘Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing’. From most of the tiny, brass hose ends, a trickle of water will fall into the pond covered in floating plants. It is Aldrich’s hope that the people of Pasadena will consider the fountain a blessing - a site to slow down and take a break from working, shopping, dining or visiting before returning to their activities with renewed energy.
