Luc-Peter Crombé

Luc-Peter Crombé (1920–2005) made paintings, drawings, murals, windows, jewels and tapestries. He was trained in Ghent and Antwerp, Belgium, where Constant Permeke, one of Belgium’s leading exponents of Expressionism, was one of his teachers. Crombé was also in the habit of copying old masters in museums. By means of several prizes he received, he was given the opportunity to make study trips to Italy, Morocco and Spain, where he became acquainted with different qualities of light and lifestyles. This influenced his work, especially his use of colour. In 1966 a lengthy sickness prompted him to leave the monastery, stop painting and make a radical break with his past. He moved to Sint-Martens-Latem, an artist colony in the Belgian province of East-Flanders, where after some time he started painting again. In 2005 he died of cancer. www.crombe.eu
