John Lessore was born in London in 1939. His uncle was the renowned English painter Walter Sickert and his mother, Helen Lessore, was also a painter and established the Beaux Arts Gallery in London. His father was Frederick Lessore, a sculptor. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1957-1961. He has exhibited widely in solo and group shows, taught at the Royal Academy Schools, and teaches drawing at the Prince’s Drawing School, London. From 2003-2011 he was a trustee of the National Gallery, London. His work is in many public collections, including the Tate Gallery, The Royal Academy of Arts, and The National Portrait Gallery.
