About my work
As a figurative sculptor I work primarily in commission for buildings, mainly in the services sector: schools, hospitals, sheltered workshops, etc. Portrait busts and grave monuments are also part of my work terrain. My work is concerned with the human figure and animals and is thus ‘figurative’. The materials I use are primarily bronze, stone, and clay; the traditional sculptor materials. Though glass, chicken wire and paper maché sometimes have proven useful.
Affirmation. 125 cm. Bronze
Because I see that art can have an important influence on public spaces, I want to put forward positive notes with my work. My work affirms that every human is precious and must be treated with respect.
My faith/worldview indirectly influences my work as it influences all that I do and am. At times I use biblical narratives [The Good Samaritan, The Prodigal Son, Jacob and the Angel] for their deep insights about life.
Grave monument Verburg. 100 cm. Granite
